Drawing up a play on words: Modified common name constructions as a feature of Sports Announcer Talk
For my Language Sciences minor capstone project, I wrote a theoretical syntax paper suggesting a new syntactic category — the modified common name construction — based on prior academic literature which explains a construction I frequently noticed in sports commentary. For example: The puck is underneath the fallen Kris Letang.
